To Everyone in Amsterdam: I Finally Got a Local Cell Phone!

Just purchased my pay-as-you-go phone today! It cost me €25 for the phone and then I had to pay for my minutes. Now I can finally get in touch with the friends I’ve made here instead of wondering where everyone is all the time. I will also feel much more comfortable if I’m in a situation where I’m walking around the city alone.

Amsterdam folks, call me @ 06 44 013 741

International Phone Calls & Messages

Looks like I won’t be using my Verizon Wireless EnV3 while abroad. I already assumed the charges would be outrageous and I wouldn’t be using the phone, but I was hoping I would at least be able to send and receive text messages. In the U.S. I have an unlimited texting plan. This does not exist overseas. Charges for using an American phone in the Netherlands are as follows:

1.99/min for calls
$0.50 / address sent for texts
$0.05 / message received for texts

No WAY. I’m getting a Pay-As-You-Go phone once I get to the Netherlands to contact the people I meet there. For everyone else, please email/Skype/write/Facebook/Tweet me! Technology is truly amazing.
